Prescription Renewal Update
Last Updated: June 1, 2025
Prescription Renewal Update
As of September 1, 2025, if you request a renewal without seeing your doctor, a $30 convenience fee will apply. This helps us allocate clinical time fairly and safely.
No fee will be charged if:
-
You renew your medications during a regular appointment
-
You use our internal pharmacies (Citrus Pharmacy or Humber Bay Pharmacy) for renewals
-
The medication requires a visit (i.e. a refill for a controlled substance)
You can still book an appointment with your doctor at any time to avoid the fee. If a renewal request requires a visit, the fee will be refunded and the patient will be asked to book an appointment.
This change ensures we are dedicating appropriate clinical review time to prescription renewals and maintaining the highest level of patient safety.
Best Practices for Managing Your Medications
âž”
Book your next visit 1-2 weeks before running out of medication, especially for medications that require regular monitoring.
âž”
Use Citrus or Humber Bay Pharmacy when possible for seamless service.
âž”
Contact the clinic early to avoid running out — last-minute requests may result in a delay in you getting your medication when you need it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is there a fee?
Renewing a prescription without an appointment still requires your doctor to review your chart, medications, and recent results to ensure it’s safe to continue your treatment. This process takes clinical time and judgment and is not covered by OHIP. The $30 fee helps support the time and resources involved in safely managing these requests outside of visits.
Ways to Avoid the Fee
You will NOT be charged the $30 convenience fee if:
1) Your prescription is renewed during a scheduled appointment
2) Your request is sent through Citrus Pharmacy or Humber Bay Pharmacy
3) Your medication requires an in-person visit — in this case, the fee will be refunded and we’ll help you book an appointment
Why Internal Pharmacies Are Exempt from the Fee
When a request comes from Citrus or Humber Bay Pharmacy, communication is faster, more accurate, and fully integrated with your care. These pharmacies work closely with your doctor, reducing errors and improving prescription safety.

There is no financial benefit to Citrus Medical or any physician when using internal pharmacies. We waive the fee in these cases to support better-coordinated care for patients.
